Alexander Mikhailovich Rodchenko is primarily known for his abstract and graphic works and the unusual used perspectives in his works; drawings by the Russian artist from this period fetch around €85,000 at auction

The present work is design for the Stalin airline company. The unsigned sheet by the Russian artist Alexander Michailowitsch Rodtschenko is inscribed in Cyrillic letters ‘??????’ (Stalin). It shows an airplane with red star in front of a cool pale blue sky. People as featureless surfaces appear on the top of the plane. Some already ventured the jump with the parachute.

The sheet is in good condition, showing some crease marks due to age and has two small tears. It is mounted in a mat to some points and framed under glass. The overall size, including the frame, are 72.7 x 52.7 cm. The sheet dimensions are 39.2 x 26.5 cm.

Aleksander Mikhailovich Rodchenko (1891-1956) was a Russian photographer, sculptor, artist and graphic designer. He began as a painter and later transitioned into photomontage and photography. He is one of the most important artists to emerge from the Russian Revolution for Constructivism and Productivism. He was a founder of constructivism and Russian Design, his photography was socially engaging, the opposite of the aesthetic of a painter. (bed)
