Item Details
Description
Watercolour on strong paper
Edoardo Tani (1880-1948) – Italian artist
Signed lower left ‘E. Tani. Roma’
Fine painted watercolour with picturesque scenery
Overall dimensions, framed: 36 x 45 cm
Very good condition

This fine painted watercolour by Italian artist Edoardo Tani depicts a picturesque landscape with antique scenery of the Via Appia Antica in Rome. This ancient street, shaded by pine trees, runs along various ruins. The bright blue sky bathes the whole landscape in a gentle light. This watercolour is presumably a study for a small size oil painting by Tani, illustrating the exact same motif.

This watercolour is signed lower left ‘E. Tani. Roma’ and is in a very good condition indicating only slight signs of age and wear. The sheet is matted and verso barely legible inscribed with pencil. Further it shows traces of old mounting in the corners. The frame displays few signs of use as well. The picture is labelled on the back by the framing workshop ‘Hans Kleinschmidt. Werkstätte für Bildereinrahmung und Vergolderei’. The sheet measures 26 x 36.5 cm. The overall dimensions framed are 36 x 45 cm. (cru)
