This atmospheric oil painting depicts a still life of a plucked turkey, hanging on the wall. It was created around 1810 by an artist from to the circle of the extremely versatile Spanish court painter and print maker Francisco de Goya, who is known for realistic scenes and therefor can be considered as the pioneer of the Realist movement in the second half of the 19th century. A still life with a very similar subject of the Master can be admired in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich.



The painting is in a good condition considering its age, showing only slight traces of age and use such as framing marks. Located on the back of the stretcher frame are two signets in red and black, the red one with a ring and a wolf hook can be identified as the arms of the Westphalia family von Schlebusch. The frame shows few traces of use as well. The stretcher frame measures 35.5 x 54.5 cm, the overall dimensions including the frame are 45 x 64 cm. (cru)
