The sculpture is recorded in the archive of Arman Studio, New York under the number APA#7010.85.004, and in the Archives Denyse Durand - Ruel under the number 10.255
This sculpture is a unique piece, which was realized in 1985 for the opera ‘L'heure Espagnol’ by Maurice Ravel; Metal sculptures by Arman fetch up to €31,000 on the international auction market

The artist Arman began with the painting before he began to create sculptures. In the late 1950s he experimented with objects which he took out of garbage cans. A little later he developed the so-called accumulations by connecting several identical objects side by side. In the early 1960s he starts smashing instruments and eventually included the broken objects in polyester or plexiglass. A popular object was the violin. The theme of music is also express in our sculpture, which was designed for an opera by Maurice Ravel.



The sculpture is overall in very good condition. It is mounted at a metal rod on a wooden base and measures 39.5 x 19.5 x 8 cm. The total height is 46.5 cm.



Arman (1928-2005)

Arman, actually Armand Pierre Fernandez, first studied at the École Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice before studying archeology and oriental art at the École du Louvre in Paris. At the same time he created already paintings inspired by surrealism. The artist became interested in African art and is fascinated by the works of Serge Poliakoff, Jackson Pollock and Kurt Schwitters. In 1958 he took on the alias Arman and began to experiment with the first accumulations. An exhibition in 1960, for which the artist had the gallery filled with waste lead to sudden fame. In subsequent years, the artist realized numerous performances and installations. Works by Arman are held at the MoMA in New York, the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington and the Tate Gallery in London.
