The aquatint is signed in pencil lower right ‘Hernandez Pijuan 87’ and inscribed and numbered in pencil lower left ‘H.C. 10/10’. The sheet is shows centrally in full width a soft horizontal crease. It is affixed to a mat at three spots at the reverse upper edge. The frame is overall in good condition slight signs of wear. The plate measures 96.8 x 63.2 cm, the sheet 113 x 77 cm. Joan Hernàndez Pijuan (1931-2005)
Joan Hernàndez Pijuan attended the Art School Llotja in Barcelona. Subsequently, he studied at the Reial Acadèmia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi in Barcelona. Since 1976, he had a professorship at the same university. In 1989, he was called into the chair of the faculty of fine arts of the university Barcelona. From 1992 until his death he was the dean of the faculty. In 2005, he was an honorary participant of the 51. Biennale in Venice. The artist received a number of Spanish awards; among those were the Spanish National Prize for Graphic Arts and the appointment as honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid. (fea)
