Description

ILLUSTRATION OF READING, PA, FROM THE PAGODA: Oil/Board, 20" X 30", signed lower left Gretzer, framed, 24" X 34", presented to The City of Reading, by the Old Reading Brewery. The pagoda was the brainchild of Reading resident William A. Witman, who built the structure as a hotel in 1908, but never secured a liquor license necessary for the venture's success. The structure still stands today, atop Mount Penn, overlooking the city.
