A 19TH CENTURY CONTINENTAL SCHOOL PORTRAIT OF A LADY. Watercolor and gouache on paper, mounted to board. Unsigned. In a velvet surround (which is broken). Together with a portrait miniature of a woman (in a broken frame) Velvet frame: 17'' x 14''
Condition
This piece has been glued down to the board behind, possibly from the maker. This sheet is also cut into an oval, also possibly from the maker. This sheet is signed maybe "Mrs. Bernard" and dated 1858 lower right (both semi-illegible. The colors are vibrant. This sheet has some light scuffing and there is pigment loss around the edges where is have been rubbed by the frame. There are a few faint scuffs scattering the surface with pigment loss, only visible upon close inspection. The colors on this piece are vibrant.
