Description
Athens, Greece, Ca 2nd quarter 5th century BCE. Â Super rare and wonderful terracotta kantharos with a beautifully iridescent allover black glaze decorated in red-figure technique with owl looking forward standing between two laurel sprigs, Greek key along base. Â Reverse with four bands of decoration. Size: Â 4-1/4"D x 4-1/8" H.
Provenance: J.M.E. collection, New York, acquired in Zurich in May 1984. Exhibited: The New York International Antiquarian Fine Art Fair, New York, November 2001
