Description
Indian, 19th-early 20th century AD. Cast bronze tribal group depicting the Hindu god Krishna with legs crossed and holding flute; next to him is his consort the goddess Radha holding a lotus flower. 677 grams, 19cm (7 1/2"). From a large London collection; formed between 1980-late 1990s. The god Krishna is the eighth incarnation or avatara of the god Vishnu who incarnated on earth in this form in order to rid the world of demonic forces and reveal the path to salvation as outlined in the sacred text the Bhagavad Gita. Radha is considered to be an incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi. [No Reserve]
