Description
SOUVENIRS OF JERUSALEM FROM THE HOUSE OF BADEN Lot of two cross sections of an olive tree 4"" and 5"" wide 3/4"" thick finished and bearing the Hebrew ""Jerusalem"". These souvenirs also bear Sotheby's auction house stickers indicating that they were once included in Lot 3680 in the sale of items from ""Baden"". In about 1898 Friedrich of Baden visited Jerusalem with a large entourage and these souvenirs were likely obtained at that time. What few people know is that a large German colony had already settled in Haifa - pro-Nazi they would be expelled following World War II.
