Description
Carved Gray Granite Stone. Portrays the Head of an Ancient Egyptian Scribe, or a sesh. Possibly Saqqara (Memphis). Possibly from First Half of the 5th Dynasty, Old Kingdom. Mid 25th century B.C., but we are selling it as "Age Unknown". Stated by the consignor was that it was brought to the US in the first half of the 20th century by his grandfather, so this could possibly be a Grand Tour item, which reflects the low starting bid. Statues with very similar heads can be seen in Rooms 31 and 42 in the Collection of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. Measurements: 4.5" x 5.5" x 4.5"
