BENOIST, CLERGET & CHARPENTIER. Hand tinted Lithograph of a view of Central Nantes, France - Military men getting ready amid the superb early Gothic architecture. Hand colored with watercolors and highlighted with gouache. Comes matted and framed in a gesso and wood frame, well gilt. Note the the margins and borders on the matting are All Hand Painted and All Original. Inscribed on the bottom margin: On the left - Nantes, Lith. Charpentier, Edit - Paris, Quai de Augustins 55. The litho was most likely done after a work of prominent inventor and engraver François-Philippe Charpentier (1734-1817) and was edited in Paris on one of the scenic wharfs on the Seine. In the center is the edition number – 97. On the right: Felix Benoist del H. Clerget lith. Fig. par Bavot. Done by Hubert Clerget (1818-1899) and Félix Benoist (1818-1896), both well known and prominent lithographers and artists from the 19th century. Measurements: Approx. 23" x 18" framed, the scene is about 15" x 10"
