The Mother of God of Vladimir is portrayed half-length, looking at the viewer as she directs with her gesture the latter’s attention towards her Son. The Christ Child is supported by His Mother’s right hand and he stretches forward to embrace her. The Mother of God wears a brown maphorion decorated with stars on forehead and shoulders. The hems of her garments are embellished with gem-studded gold strips. The drapery of both figures is accentuated with dense chrysography. The panel is complemented by a silver oklad with a cut-out halo, decorated with embossed foliage motifs.

The oklad bears the maker’s mark ‘?.?.’ of Gubkin Ivan Semenovich, Moscow, merchant and manufacturer. Foundation of the factory of silver goods 1841, later continued by his sons Sergej and Dimitrij), assay master’s mark ‘?? 1852’ (Michail Pawlowitsch Tschurmasow), fineness ‘84’ and Moscow city mark St. George fighting the dragon. The painted surface is in good condition, only depicting a fine craquelé consistent with the age of the icon. The dimensions are 31 x 26.5 cm.
