Description
Likely American, early 20th century. An antique quackery medicine shock device or induction coil mounted within a rectangular oak hinged top box, with copper basin wet cell battery on left side of interior flanked on right by a series of turned brass poles with knobs for holding copper wires that attach to battery, surrounding a tubular form of coiled copper. The battery connects to the coil which in turn connects to two wands which would be gripped by the user. Box is mounted with brass hinges, handle on top, and lock with key on front. Closed box dimensions approximately 7" x 10" x 6". Device accompanied by copy of page from period publication describing uses and functionality of the device.
