Description
Pre-Columbian, Northern Peru, Chimu culture, ca. 900-1100 CE. Shell bead necklace comprised of dozens, perhaps hundreds of ancient tiny, hand-carved, colorful (hues of red, deep purple, tan, cream, and green) shell beads (too many to count!) and an impressive round ceramic pendant carved with a lively dancing warrior lord depicted in composite profile (note the frontal eye and chest as well as the desire to depict all four limbs rather than overlap them). Â Holding his war club and instrument, donning a tumi shaped helmet, large ear ornament, and nose ring, this noble warrior performs a ceremonial dance. Â This richly iconographic composition is framed with a round bead-like border. Necklace measures ~37-3/4"L (96 cm) , pendant 1-3/4"D (4.5 cm) Â
