Description
Pre-Columbian, Central America, Panama, Cocle, ca. 600 - 800 CE. Striking bowl decorated with magnificent painting of a stylized coatimundi and surrounding crescent moons in red outlined with brown on cream ground.  To Panamanians of the period, this beautifully stylized design and iconography would have brought to mind known mythic or Shamanic being(s).  Coclé ceramics constitute some of the highest expressions of art in Pre-Hispanic Central America.  Size: 9"D x 3"H.
