Basohli School
The Basohli School is part of the Pahari miniature painting flourishing in the late 17th and 18th centuries. The works are characterized by brilliant colors and bold lines. A distinctive element is the use of thick raised drops of white paint and particles of beetle wings to render jewelry. The figures are shown in profile featuring a stylized face with prominent eyes. The grounds are usually colored in ochre yellow, brown or green.
Condition: The miniature is in good condition with well-preserved colors and only minimal wear. There are small scattered color flakings below the upper margin (outside of the depiction). The work is mounted under a mat measuring 26 x 34 cm. The sheet size is 19.4 x 27.3 cm.
