Item Details
Description
A mid-Victorian silver tea caddy, of oval outline having engraved floral swag, garlands and ribbon decoration, with dual vacant oval cartouche, beaded rims, and stylised border engraving to hinged lid with pinecone finial. Hallmarked John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard (Barnard & Sons Ltd), London 1869. Height inclusive of finial 4 4/8 inches (11.5 cm), weight 15.43 ozt (479.9 grams).
Condition
Overall good condition. Hallmarks clear and legible with matching part hallmark to lid. Displaying light tarnishing, rubbing and wear to surface. Hinge in good order. Lock missing key. Both cartouche feel slightly concave and it is probable that a previous engraving has been removed, although the silver does not feel thin in these areas.
