Description
One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Iron-Oxide Decoration, Stamped "BOSTON," attributed to Frederick Carpenter, Boston, MA, late 18th century, squat-shaped, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and flared rim, decorated with a dipped iron-oxide slip around the top and base. Excellent form and fine, thin-walled potting. Firing flaws typical of early stoneware, including a dent to one side, an iron ping to body, and a contact mark to shoulder. A shallow chip to interior of rim and some wear to exterior of rim. Minor base chips.
