Description
One-Gallon Iron-Oxide-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Coggled Designs, attributed to Frederick Carpenter, Boston, MA, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base and coggled "rope" pattern around shoulder and rim, the shoulder area and base dipped in a very light iron-oxide slip with ochre coloration. Approximately 5 1/2" long J-shaped crack from rim. Tight 6" crack from rim on reverse. 1 3/8" loss to rim with faint hairline extending from it. Approximately 8" spider crack to left side of jar. Three small rim chips. Two small in-the-firing chips to side. Large in-the-firing dry spot to reverse. Glazed-over chip to base along with a small post-firing base chip.
