Description
An Egyptian limestone lid for a canopic jar, Late Period, c. 664 - 332 BC, in the form of human-headed Imsety, who protected the liver. The features are extremely well-preserved with details in black pigment, the wig is large and quite full making the entirety of the lid. 4 ½ in x 4 ½ in (11.7 x 11.7 cm). Dark mineral deposits throughout, old collection label on top and antique collection numbers on bottom. Ex UK private collection, South London, acquired from Juergens, Inc., New York, in 1979.
