Description
WIENER WERKSTATTE CERAMIC FIGURE OF A FEMALE DANCER
Circa 1920, in the manner of Michael Powolny, Wiener Keramik, the young maiden in a yellow dress with floral garlands by her feet, on a shaped base, impressed with a triangle and various numerals. Restored.

Height 16 in., Width 12 in.

Austrian artist Michael Powolny (1871 –1954) was an important exponent of ceramic and glass art. He designed product series and individual decorative items for various Austrian and german firms. In 1906 he founded his own workshop. In his formative years from 1891 to 1894, he attended the School of Arts and Crafts in Znaim; seven years later his schooling continued at the the School of Arts and Crafts in Vienna.

In 1906, he founded the Wiener Keramik together with Bertold Löffler, which was to become the renowned Vienna Workshop.
