Description
A 53 x 37cm sheet featuring four black and white reproductions of Henri Matisse works: from top left Self Portrait in a Shirt , le Luxel, Madras Rouge and La Coiffeure, inscribed and signed in pencil to lower right margin below La Coiffeure "A Olga Meerson, amicalement Henri Matisse, 1910"; yellowing to paper, with some chipping to lower margin, a 11.5cm tear across upper edge and a 2.5cm tear to right border, light spotting and wear, particularly at corners. Matisse signature remains unaffected. Olga Meerson was a Russian pupil and model to Matisse, with whom she may have had a short affair. They portrayed each other in 1911. She then moved to Germany, where she married Heinz Pringsheim. After falling into depression she took her life in 1929 by throwing herself from the fourth floor of Hotel Adlon in Berlin.
