Stepan Fedorovi? Kolesnikov (1879-1955) frequently depicted animals in his oeuvre, often set in wintry and mostly deserted landscapes. In the 1910s, Kolesnikov made numerous study trips, including Southern Russia, which inspired him to many landscapes. Especially in his atmospheric gouaches, he managed to capture the different shades of colors manifested in the nature.

Condition:

The painting is in very good condition, showing scattered tiny stains and minor wear to the frame. There are light framing marks and tiny holes from former mounting to the corners and edges. The size of the painting is 49.5 x 65 cm, and the frame measures 60.5 x 74.5 cm.

Stepan Fedorovi? Kolesnikov (1879 - 1955)

Stepan Fedorovi? Kolesnikov was born in 1879 in Adrianopol, Ukraine. Between 1897 and 1903, he studied at the Odessa Art School and later at the Russian Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. In the 1910s, he made numerous trips including Southern Russia, China and Turkestan, and worked in different countries, such as Bulgaria and Serbia. In 1919, he moved to Belgrade, where he became a professor at the Academy of Art and lived and worked there until his death in 1955. Today, works by Kolesnikov are on display in major museum collections, including the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and the Pushkin Museum in St. Petersburg. (cko)
