Typical cheerful sculptures by Hans Schmitt, whose works were shown on the occasion of a solo exhibition at the Buchheim Museum Bernried in 2014

Hans Schmitt’s (1912-1998) bizarre human and animal sculptures combine the major styles of modernism and develop them at the same time. The figures are made of non-precious materials of everyday life. Due to their anti-academic aesthetics they are commonly assigned to the terms of ‘Sculpture Brute’ or ‘Naive Art’. These sculptures are composed of several parts of construction and driftwood and are characterized by Schmitt’s typical humorous component.

Condition

Both sculptures are in very good condition, showing minor wear. The dimensions of the female figure are 82 x 20 x 28 cm, and the cat is 27.5 x 30 x 7 cm in size.
