A characteristic, solid bronze cast by Michael Sandle, depicting a mechanic construction as he created it mainly in the 1980s, after having moved to Germany. Responses to his smaller bronzes were multiple times in monumental size cast sculptures that are exhibited in public space

Michael Sandle (b. 1936)

Michael Sandle began his artistic education at the Douglas School of Art and Technology on the Isle of Man. After completing his studies in 1954, he served for two years military service in the Royal Artillery. Afterwards he began studying at the Slade School of Fine Arts in London in the classes of e.g. Lucian Freud and Claude Rogers. Sandle moved for three years to Canada for visiting professorships at the University of Calgary in Alberta and at the University of British Columbia. He took part in the Biennale in Paris in 1967. One of his sculptures was exhibited at documenta IV in Kassel in 1968. He moved to Germany in 1973 and work as a professor for sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe since 1980. He received the title Royal Academician in 1989. The artist lives and works in London. (tm)
