Although the Austrian artist is working in almost all genres of art, he prefers the three-dimensional work, which possibilities he explores up to the dissolution of limits in often humorous, witty works. This work, consisting of a red jeans, which is pulled with one leg over a steel tube mounted on a base, has a humorous component. Wurm wants to show the ‘everyday life from a different perspective’.
Condition:
The stele is overall in good condition whereby the red color of the pants is somewhat faded. It is screwed onto a base from MDF and has a height of 144 cm. The base measures 25.2 x 30 x 30 cm.
Erwin Wurm (born 1954)
Erwin Wurm was born in Styria in 1954. From 1977 to 1979 he attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, from 1979 to 1982 he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. The artist became famous in the 1980s for his performative ‘One Minute Sculptures’ for which he instructed random persons to interact with everyday objects in front of the camera. The humorous sculptures by the Austrian are mostly of alienated everyday objects in unfamiliar contexts enticing new associations. Erwin Wurm has been honored with numerous awards. His works can be found in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum and MoMA in New York, the Walker Art Center in Minnesota, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
