The historicist chest was made in the second half of the 19th century in Dublin by Millar & Beatty. The massive oak body rests on four stud feet. Front and sides are coffered. The front is decorated with stylized carvings. The base shows a frieze with stylized leafs of circle segments. The cassettes are surrounded by friezes and filled with stylized animal heads and foliage. The chest has a flat slightly projecting lid and shows a plain, bare Interior.
Condition:
The chest has significant traces of age and wear. The surface is partially rubbed, shows water spotting and scratches. The Forelegs have blemishes. The Lock and the key are renewed. The chest measures 78.5 x 167.5 x 68.3 cm. (bed)
