The English manufacturer of optical instruments Joshua Somalvico & Co., at the time headquartered in London, built this highly decorative measuring instrument in the late 19th century. In the center piece is a large barometer with additionally a hygrometer and in the shaft is a thermometer. The gauge is designed in the shape of a banjo. The tipped ends are slightly curved. In the back are still the original barometer columns. Silver-plated dials with black heightened engravings are a special feature of the instrument. The wooden case adorns vast, vegetable mother-of-pearl inlaid work and polychrome enamel painting.
The device is inscribed on the dial with the manufacturer. The silver-plating on the scales is slightly to heavily abraded. The ring bordering of the convex glass has been probed later unclean. The basic color is partially slightly chipped and craqueled. The length is 103 cm. No guarantee for functionality. (tm)
