The present Russian icon dates back to the 18th century and reveals the Mother of God of the burning bush. The Mother of God is portrayed in half-length, turning to her right as she points at her Son who is seated on her left forearm. The garments of the Mother of God are adorned with recurring motifs in the form of clouds. Mother and child are depicted against and eight-point mandorla; the upper, blue star is scattered with little stars, the red one includes the Apocalyptic personifications of the four Evangelists in the corners. The celestial segments behind the glory show angels carrying symbolic attributes of the Mother of God.
The icon is in good condition considering the age. The paint surface as well as the gold leaf parts are slightly rubbed off, without significantly affecting the depiction. The panel measures 31.5 x 26 cm. (cbo)
