Item Details
Description
A GOOD GROUP OF 36 U.S. CIVIL WAR CDV & OTHER PHOTOGRAPHS AND RELATED MATERIAL. Comprising a vintage photo album with 1865 dedicatory inscription on inside front cover and with an index listing 47 images, including patriotic (presidential) and individual images primarily naval officers of varying grades (mostly Ensigns) but apparently none of the offered images  (of which are ID’d on verso) match the names of those on the index. Nevertheless, the album does contain 33 Civil War CDV’s comprising mostly of Junior Grade Naval officers and two enlisted men, the majority ID’d. Additionally, a real photo CDV of General Neal S. Dow and Vice President Schuyler Colfax. Also CDV photogravures of Generals Sheridan, Meade, Kearny, Garfield, Pleasonton, Butler and Halleck. Plus CDV photogravures of politicians Seward and Stephen Douglas. A variety of back stamps are exhibited and some with tax stamps including one Brady image, plus studios in Boston, Nantucket, Newport, Vicksburg, Fortress Monroe, 3 J.Stevenson Brooklyn, 2 Pendleton N.Y. and others. Plus a cased sixth plate Civil War tintype of an enlisted naval man, a sixth plate tintype of ID’d 26 Maine soldier,  small tintype of enlisted man (Union), a nice ½ plate size Thermoplastic Union Case with woman on horseback containing a post-Civil War enlisted Naval image,  plus four other non-military tintypes including a Chinese immigrant, also one daguerreotype of a woman (uncased), also seven battlefield collected mini balls and bullets, a small artillery ball (3 inch diameter) and a  1936 dated Iowa Woman’s Relief Corps stacked cannon balls desk ornament.
