This signed Hereke carpet was made in Turkey during the 1990s. It has a density of approximately 850,000 knots per square meter. The detailed main motif on a light background is decorated with a floral pattern. Different, colourful plants in pots, flowers, birds and vines grace the central medallion. The main bordure also shows different flowers and vines on a red background. The carpet is an extremely fine piece that will fit in any home.

Condition:

The Hereke carpet is in very good condition with minimal traces of wear. The signature is located on the upper edge of the carpet. The measurements are 153 x 107 cm.

Hereke

The town of Hereke is located near Istanbul and well-known for its courtly weaving tradition, employed to make the finest carpets for Turkish sultans. Only in 1875 were carpets from Hereke permitted to be sold among the public. The knotting is, when using fine yarns of wool or silk, accordingly dense and the manufactured carpets were always signed.
