Collection VOK: Suzani 15

This suzani displays three circular flowers in the narrow field and twelve circular flowers of the same type in the wide main border. Very large in size, the flowers are filled either with discs or rotating stars and drawn either with closed or incised serrated outlines. They are all surrounded by wide petrol leaf vines. The spaces left undecorated by the main design are densely filled with palmettes, blossoms and small motifs, including botehs. Three large birds are seen at the sides of the field. Drawn in an energetic and rustic style, the design is full of movement that creates a vibrant appearance. Certain details, in particular the circular bands in the blossoms, show the stylistic influence of Lakai pieces. It is likely that this suzani was not made in the town of Kermina, but in one of the surrounding villages. - Good condition. Backed with canvas.
