Donald Roosevelt Gearhart. (1900-1987, Tulsa, OK). Green Wing Teal Pair of Decoys. 1939. Carved and painted wood with glass eyes. 10" long each. This unique diminutive pair was made as loving gift specifically for his wife. Both decoys were signed on the bottom, to "Vera Gearhart" from "D.R.G." One is dated, 9/9/39, the other 9/15/39. The drake teal has raised wing tips, extensive incising, and a turned erect "watching" head. His mate displays a comfortable relaxed head position as well as extensive incising. The pair descended through the Gearhart family where they resided for the past three quarters of a century. Excellent condition. Est. $3,000-5,000. Ship: $55. Don Gearhart graduated from the Tulsa College of Law in 1927.Shortly after, he became an executive officer with Sinclair Oil. In 1956 he was appointed President of the company in Canada. Gearhart produced appealing pocket sized decoys for his personal use, mainly in the marshes of Louisiana. In 2013, Decoy Magazine featured an article about Gearhart titled, "Don Gearhart, an Oil Man's Pocket Sized Rig."
