Joanne Kandy Latham is a former English glamour model. Her statistics were quoted as 36-23-36. In 1979 the two major Men's magazines, Playboy and Penthouse, fought a very publicized battle over her for the first nude pictures. Latham signed a contract with Bob Guccione and Penthouse which promised a fee of £70,000 for her to appear in the 10th Anniversary edition. Latham adorned nineteen pages of the magazine. That edition made U.S. history, selling more in Dollar percentage than any other magazine to date and making a profit of $18 million. After a brief affair with Guccione Latham's contract was terminated with Penthouse Magazine when she fell in love with the Guccione's son. She moved from New York to Los Angeles and briefly became the girlfriend of Hugh Hefner living in the Playboy Mansion. In the early eighties Latham returned to England to her Midland home in the village of Tettenhall.

In 1965, Bob Guccione, a struggling artist with an entrepreneurial imagination, started a magazine called Penthouse. Due to his lack of resources, Guccione personally photographed most of the models for the magazine's early issues. He spent long hours, and sometimes, several days, to complete a photo shoot. Although he had no professional training, Guccione applied his knowledge of painting to his photography, establishing the diffused, soft focus look that would become one of the trademarks of the magazine's pictorials. These images offered more sexually explicit content than other gentleman’s magazines of the era, establishing Penthouse as a well known name amongst its competitors.
Background:
Penthouse, a men's magazine founded by Bob Guccione, combines urban lifestyle articles and softcore pornographic pictorials that, in the 1990s, evolved into hardcore. Penthouse is owned by FriendFinder Network, formerly known as General Media, Inc. whose parent company was Penthouse International Inc. prior to chapter 11 restructuring. Although Guccione was American, the magazine was founded in 1965 in the United Kingdom, but beginning in September 1969 was sold in the United States as well. At the height of his success, Guccione, who died in 2010, was considered to be one of the richest men in the United States.
