Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, Tuxcacuesco-Ortices type, Ca. 200 BCE - 200 CE. Poignant sculpture of a mother in seated position cradling and nursing her infant, comprised of unslipped buff terracotta with applied adornments. Both figures wearing headband and ear ornaments; mother also wearing necklace, waist wrap, and skirt. A lovely depiction of Pre-Columbian motherhood. Size: 4-3/4"H x 3-1/4"W
Provenance: Ex-private Shepard collection, acquired from Primitive Arts Gallery, Tucson, AZ in the late 1990s.
