Musical Instruments : An unusual early 19thC European violin , bears label within ' Galanea - Italy . 1815 . Price £7 10s. 0d . ' The carved maple body with walnut finish , tiger striping to the back , ebonised fretboard , tuning pegs and tailpiece . The one piece maple neck and head terminating in an unusual carved scroll formed as a Gentleman's head . 24" overall . Together with compartmental case. Prov: Comes with a type letter stating it was once the violin belonging to Giovanni Baptistta Viotte. It suggests that this could be the violin played at his' Big Event ' in Paris , ' But there is no indication if this was ever proven.'
Giovanni BattistaViotti ( 1755-1824) Italian was a Violinist and Composer He is known to have played and owned at least one Antonio Stradivari Violin , one was known as the 'Viotti Stradivarius' and he is thought to have comissioned a replica of the ' Strad' known as ' The Viotti Ex-Bruce' purchased by the Royal Academy of Music.
He is considered to be ' The Father of 19 thC French Violin School ' , He also composed twenty-nine violin concertos, which were an influence on Ludwig van Beethoven.
