Good condition

An expressive bronze, rich in details, depicting a Moore in traditional armor and weaponry with a spiked mace. His facial features show the implacability of the warrior and his preparedness to attack is indicated by the grip of the sword


Condition:

The bronze is in good condition, consistent with age. The patina is rubbed in places. The weapon in the Moor’s right the right hand is presumably a later addition, a small part at the top of the sword hilt is broken. The overall height of the sculpture measures 25.2 cm.


Emile Louis Picault (1833-1915)

Émile Picault was a pupil of the painter Henri Royer. Between 1863 and 1914 he exhibited at the Salon in Paris. His bronze sculptures earned him major success. His oeuvre is characterized by allegorical or patriotic themes and figures of warriors and mythological heroes. In addition, he has also created busts of historical or literary figures, such as Joan of Arc, Voltaire or even Macbeth. Picault is considered one of the most prolific French sculptors of his time.
