The first book by science author and meteorite specialist, Geoffrey Notkin, was a response to increasing worldwide interest in meteorites following the success of the Meteorite Men television show which he had hosted along with Steve Arnold. “Meteorite Hunting: How to Find Treasure from Space” is the only comprehensive, hands-on guide to recovering meteorites. Profusely illustrated with original photographs, it describes the origin, composition, and appearance of meteorites, as well as equipment, hunting strategies, meteorite craters, and many other topics. “Meteorite Hunting” won an IPPY Award as one of the best independently-published science books of the year (2011). This mint condition, unread copy has been personally signed by the author. Of special note: Included with this lot is a superb oriented Sikhote-Alin iron meteorite shield from a mass whose fall had been witnessed on February 12, 1947. This specimen is such an outstanding example of ablation that a photograph of it was used on page 19 of the book to demonstrate classic characteristics of an oriented meteorite. The specimen measures 7/8 x ¾ x ¼ in. (height x width x depth) and weighs 0.01 pounds.
