Sitting in the driver’s seat of a 1992 Chrysler convertible, Marilyn Monroe’s exuberant energy is captured by photographer George Barris. Leaning out the car door, Monroe’s hands are blurred with motion as she talks to someone nearby.
Executed circa 1962 and printed later, this gelatin silver print is signed and numbered a proof from an edition of ninety-nine. With George Barris/Edward Weston Collection stamp verso, the photograph measures 5 x 7 inches. Overall very slightly yellowed but otherwise good condition.
George Barris (American, b. 1928)
American photographer George Barris is best known for his images of Marilyn Monroe. Becoming interested in photography from a young age, Barris served in the U.S. Army’s Office of Public Relations where many of his images of General Dwight D. Eisenhower were published. After World War II, Barris moved to Hollywood to work as a freelance photographer where he photographed numerous stars including Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable, Charlie Chaplin and Steve McQueen.
