Description
Alabaster, lacquer and gilding. Burma, Shan, approx. 18th to 19th cent.
Due to this especially beautiful Buddha head’s fine facial features, primarily his small, sensual mouth, but also the extremely high running eyebrow arches, his radiance reflects a peculiar extra-terrestrial, an ageless but young being. The smooth hair with the lotus bud finish has the form of a stupa (which symbolizes Buddha) and is gilded. The white, translucent alabastar hightens the sense of „spirit“ or spiritiual glory. This type of alabaster is mined in the Burmese Mandalay-Sagaing region. Mounted on a black base. HEAD HEIGHT 25,7 CM
