Original letter written and signed by Charles M Russell to "Friend Schatzlein", written in pencil, believed to be referencing the picture now known as "Peaceful Valley Saloon", Dated Oct. 10, 1906, "Great Falls Mont, Friend Schatzlein, I'm a long time answering your letter but you know I never was rapid with pen or pencil I don't have to tell you that the Saloon picture is about a brawl started over cards when guns are trump, represents the life Knight lived and will no doubt remind him of the old west he usta know It's bold in technique and rather rough but a find picture withal I hope Jack likes it Your friend CMR"; Friend referenced in the letter is thought to be Charles Schatzlein, his dealer in Butte; lower portion of letter has some water mark damage; framed 11-1/2" x 10"
