Seascapes are recurring subjects in the oeuvre of the French landscapist Emile Godchaux. The present work is painted with a loose, spontaneous brushstroke and a partly pastose application of paint.
The signature is incised in the paint lower left ‘Godchaux’. The oil painting is overall in good condition. The sky and the pastose parts show craquelure. The surface displays a small color flaking in the right center, a corresponding patch is visible on the reverse. Under UV-light touched-up framing marks appear. The decorative frame shows slight signs of age and wear. The painting measures 73.5 x 116 cm. The framed dimensions are 90 x 134 cm. (vsc)
