Description
An Egyptian ceramic Bes jar, Late Period, c. 664 - 343 BC, ovoid in shape with rounded bottom, the neck tubular with flared mouth. The side of the vessel is indented with added eyes, nose and ears, the spout implying the tall, feathered headdress so characteristic of this deity, H: 2 2/5 in (6.2cm). Ex Dorset, England private collection formed by the previous owner's grandfather who worked for a `telegraph` company in Egypt in the 1920`s. and had been in the family`s possession since then.
