Item Details
Description
A pair of early twentieth century German figures modelled as knights, each realistically formed with shield and weapons, the hinged helmet opening to reveal carved ivory faces. German assay marks for Ludwig Neresheimer, Hanau alongside silver imports for Berthold Hermann Muller, London 1913 to one. Height measuring 9 1/4 inches (23.5 cm), gross weight 35 ozt (1095 grams). The figures depicting King Arthur and Theodoric, king of the Visigoths, are based on two of the bronze statues which form part of the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I in the Hofkirche, Court church, Innsbruck, Austria.
Condition
The lot displays general scratches, marks wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. One ivory face is heavily discoloured, the other a little out of position. Both would benefit from a clean and polish. Flail terminal missing to one. Hallmarks overall are clear and legible - hallmarks present differ to each statue.
