Sol LeWitt (1928-2007)

Sol LeWitt was born in 1928 in Hartford, Connecticut, USA. From 1945 to 1949 he studied at the School of Visual Arts of Syracuse University. In 1953 he settled in New York, where he worked as a graphic designer and later also taught at various art schools. In the early 1960s, the artist developed his own style with geometric sculptures and modular work. By sobriety and logic of his work and by theoretical statements Sol LeWitt was an important stimulator of conceptual art. (tm)
