Hans Scheib’s (born 1949) expressive wooden sculptures are one the one hand inspired by the artists of the Brücke, on the other they show elements of the Gothic wood sculpture. Scheib is not interested in the demonstration of aesthetical beauty. Rather, he is concerned with an examination of controversial events of the history and the present.

Condition:

The sculpture is in good condition, showing typical dryness cracks and small chips to the wood. The base shows a loss in the left rear corner. The dimensions of the figure are approximately 155 x 150 x 64 cm, while the base measures 23 x 263.5 x 20 cm (H x W x D).

After an apprenticeship as a typesetter, the Potsdam born Hans Scheib studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Dresden from 1971 to 1976. Since 1976 he has been active as a freelance artist in Berlin. Since 1985, he works mainly as a sculptor. Works by Scheib are in the collections of the Deutsche Historishe Museum in Berlin, the Berlinische Galerie, the National Gallery and the collection of the German Bundestag as well as the Albertinum in Dresden and the Grassi Museum in Leipzig, among others.
