STAMPED "JUG / 1834" STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, approximately quart capacity, ovoid form with incised medial rings, collared mouth, and thin strap handle. 19th century. 8" H.

Provenance: From the collection of Marion and Carleton Cotting of Vienna, VA.
Catalogue Note: This jug shows characteristics of the Webster School of stoneware in North Carolina. Specifically the abundance of incised rings, the clay color, and the glaze spotting. See the front cover of Quincy and Samuel Scarborough, "The Webster School of Folk Potters" for a comparable example.
