16 coin silver spoons, all with fiddle and fiddle tipt pattern handles, all bearing marks of Nashville, Tennessee silversmiths and/or retailers. Includes 1 teaspoon marked W.H. Calhoun Nashville in double rectangles (William Calhoun, working Nashville 1835-d. 1865); 1 teaspoon marked JM Smith in serrated rectangle (John M. Smith, working Nashville, 1835-1850); 1 teaspoon marked J. Flowers Nashville in double rectangles with additional incuse mark COIN (Joshua Flowers, working Nashville 1840?-1860 and later); Six coin silver teaspoons with engraved, trifid-end handles, marked E. Wiggers (Ernest Wiggers, working Nashville, Tennessee circa 1866), 3 tablespoons marked Gates and Pohlman (incuse mark - Nashville, circa 1865); and 1 tablespoon, 2 dessert spoons and 1 teaspoon all marked T. Gowdey (incuse mark - Thomas Gowdey, working Nashville 1825-d. 1863). 13.68 oz troy combined weight. Provenance: the collection of John Montague, Memphis, Tenn.
Condition
1/2" tear to bowl of Gowdey tablespoon, scattered small minor dents to bowls, otherwise very good condition; all except Calhoun spoon are monogrammed.
