15 Memphis, Tennessee retailed coin silver or early sterling forks. Items 1-9: 9 forks with pointed oval tipt handles, incuse marks J.E. Merriman & Co. (used circa 1855-1860, according to the book Tennessee Silversmiths by Benjamin H. Caldwell Jr.), additional pseudohallmarks P-star-S (Polhamus & Strong, working New York, 1859-1863), script monogram GHM. 6-7/8"L. Items 10-15: Six forks in the Ivy pattern by Henry Hebbard, with Devil masks on handles, HH 1865 patent mark, F.D. Barnum & Co. incuse retailer mark (active Memphis, c. 1870s), script monogram on handle: Mrs. M.L. Beecher. 7-1/8"L. Combined weight: 19.35 oz troy. Provenance: the collection of John Montague, Memphis, Tenn.
